Hickman Mills C-1 School District is committed to an educational program that recognizes the unique value, needs, and talents of each individual student. It recognizes, however, that the academically gifted student possesses extraordinary abilities to think creatively and critically, and that his/her cognitive and affective needs can best be met by provision of a differentiated learning environment. Such an environment will allow gifted students regular opportunities to interact with, and be stimulated by, their intellectual peers without being isolated completely from the regular school program. The C-1 program is based upon a continued commitment to foster the development of the unique potential of each student by providing learning alternatives which are appropriately styled to encourage individual growth at varying levels of abilities, interests and needs.
One day each week students in the academic component (grades K-12) and students in the fine arts component (grades 2-5) are transported by bus to the Center of Differentiated Education and meet with a team of resource teachers. A unique educational enrichment program is developed for each group of students that addresses the needs of gifted students.
